Turning Ground Knits

Turning Ground Knits is a creative space where you'll find inspired patterns that are a joy to create. Simple, easy-to-navigate patterns take the guess-work out of knitting and make the creative process a breeze.

Knitting is one of the best ways I know to de-stress. There’s nothing better than settling into your favorite chair, picking up the needles and letting your hands move in the delicate rhythm of creation. The feeling of fiber running through your fingers, the satisfaction of seeing your project (slowly) growing, the thrill of seeing colors and patterns form satisfies the soul!

Turning Ground Knits is where you will discover all of my patterns. These are truly a labour of love for me and I’m thrilled to be able to share them with you. Be sure to tag #turninggroundyoga on your socials and show off what you’ve made.

Home Sweet Home Slippers

They are super comfortable all on their own as house slippers or little booties (think baby gift!) They also work really great when you slip them on your feet and then slide your feet into your crocs. Make a pair for every mood and feel amazing not only around the house but also when you walk out the door!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Socks

‘Tis the season to be tacky! Dazzle everyone at your Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with these festive socks that’ll have everyone asking, ‘why?’ Soft, unique and definitely a statement piece, these socks go equally well with sandals, heels or really say something by wearing them without any shoes at all. It’s Christmas after all- make your own rules!

Twisted Pillars Mittens

Fingerless mitts are gorgeous but I’m always on the fence about whether or not they are practical. On the one hand (pardon the pun,) leaving the fingers uncovered means you maintain dexterity and function. It’s easy to check your phone and reply to a text. On the other hand (still punny), if it’s at all cold outside, exposed fingers don’t do well. Personally I opt for fingerless mitts
when the weather permits, which means slightly above 0 C or at work when I have a chill but still need to type. Wherever you are in the world, you’ll certainly have devised your own temperature/ mitten scale and I hope these beautiful fingerless mitts fit into your life and your wardrobe wonderfully.
Happy knitting!

Strawberry Shortie Socks

It just feels like summer when you wear these fun, fruity summer socks. The yarn is specifically dyed to resemble the king of summer berries- the strawberry and this self-striping pattern is made better with the insertion of an afterthought heel. A sweet detail on the edge of the roll-down cuff and along the toe brings strawberry seeds to mind. Your Strawberry Shortie Socks will make the summer extra sweet!

Cozy Comfort Pajama Bag

Create the perfect wavy-patterned bag to keep your cozy-wozies in. This pattern isn’t just for pj’s but that’s a good place to start. You can adjust the size by using larger/smaller needles or a thicker/ thinner yarn. The possibilities are endless!

The Dad Socks

I can still hear my mom grumbling about how long it took to reprogram my Dad’s fashion sense after they met. You see, my dad grew up on a dusty farm in the heart of Saskatchewan. He and his four brothers spent their youthful days shooting gophers, running the tractor and all the other things that boys on a grain farm in the 1950’s and 60’s did. They wore brown and they were proud of it. Fast forward to the 80’s when having your colours done was all the rage. After completing her colour consultation, mom- in her glorious spiral-permed wisdom, proclaimed that dad was a winter and needed to wear blue- not brown. She claimed it took a long time to get him out of his farmer-browns and into the new cool blue. These socks were inspired by a color combination dyed by Allison Barnes Yarn for her Fiber Fix November 2023. I couldn’t resist roughing the socks up a bit with a stitch pattern that, despite the sophisticating effect of the blue yarn, still looks kind of scruffy around the edges. After all, you can take the boy off the farm, but that farm will remain in his heart for a lifetime.

Swirl and Dash Mittens

Mittens are a staple ‘round here when the temperatures drop and the snow flies. It’s handy to have several pairs on hand for when the first pair get wet and you aren’t ready to stop playing outside, lol. These mitts are heavy and warm, and look best when knitted in a solid, striking color of yarn. For extra warmth, consider knitting the Everyday Mitten Liners in fingering weight yarn for extra comfort and warmth.

The Everyday Mitten Liners

When the frosty winds howl and the temperature drops, it’s useful to have a few extra layers. These Everyday Mitten Liners can be made as stand-alone mittens, with a cuff, which you can pull on under any of your favorite knitted mitts. They can also be made as a knitted-in liner, attached to the mitten that needs extra squish, softness and warmth.
The Everyday Mitten Liners slide (or are knit) right inside of your favorite mitt and provide additional warmth and comfort on those chilly winter days. Layering up is a great way to guarantee your hands will stay warm, no matter what is happening outside.

All Tucked in Toque

This toque (pronounced TOOK in Canada,) is the most fuzzy, warm and wonderful hat you’ll ever wear. It has plenty of stretch and fits like a gentle dream. Adorn it with a pom pom or go without. Have fun and use a complimentary color on the cuff/brim- it’s up to you. However you decide to make this toque your own, one this is certain,  this toque is going to be your new favorite thing!
